The Story

Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, CATS transports you to the Jellicle Ball. A magical night where one special cat will be chosen to journey to the Heaviside Layer for a new life. With its timeless score, breathtaking choreography and spectacular sets, CATS promises an unforgettable theatrical experience.

The Cast

Perth will be treated to the incredible talents of Gabriyel Thomas (Sister Act) as Grizabella, ready to make your heart ache with the iconic Memory. Todd McKenney will be taking on the delightful dual roles of Bustopher Jones and Asparagus, the Theatre Cat. Classical sensation Mark Vincent will grace the stage as the wise and beloved Old Deuteronomy. The wonderful Lucy Maunder will portray the caring Jellylorum. With the charismatic Des Flanagan (of Moulin Rouge! The Musical fame) will be the mischievous Rum Tum Tugger. As well as WAAPA graduate Jarrod Draper stepping into the role of the storytelling Munkustrap. Adding to this fantastic lineup, Leigh Archer returns as the motherly Jennyanydots.

Feature Films

The program is brimming with fascinating features including MR BURTON, which offers a glimpse into the early life of the legendary Welsh actor Richard Burton. Meanwhile, SEPTEMBER SAYS promises a complex and unsettling exploration of sisterhood with surreal and gothic undertones, drawing comparisons to literary giant Stephen King. Local flavour shines through with SKELETON GIRLS. A KIDNAPPED SOCIETY, an Aussie indie-punk film from WA director Richard Eames.

Rev is also celebrating some significant cinematic milestones. They’ll be marking the 40th anniversary of the award-winning WA-made film FRAN, starring Noni Hazlehurst. As well as bringing back the 1988 WA feature SHAME. Film buffs will also have a rare opportunity to experience three influential works by Wim Wenders (ALICE IN THE CITIES, THE AMERICAN FRIEND) in honour of his 80th birthday, alongside a 4K restoration of the WWII Italian drama ROME OPEN CITY.

Documentaries & Short Films

The documentary lineup looks equally compelling, exploring diverse voices and themes. Highlights include ABEBE: BUTTERFLY SONG, following artist David Bridie’s musical journey and CHAIN REACTIONS, which examines the cultural impact of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Short films remain a cornerstone of Revelation, and this year boasts its most extensive program yet, with over 100 shorts spanning various genres and styles. WA Talent

The Cast

Adding to the local excitement, the stellar Australian cast features some familiar Perth faces! Our very own Shubshri Kandiah takes on the iconic role of Belle, alongside Brendan Xavier as the Beast, Rohan Browne as Lumiere, Gareth Jacobs as Cogsworth and Jayde Westaby as Mrs. Potts. What’s more, Wanneroo-raised WAAPA graduate Rodney Dobson plays Belle’s beloved inventor father Maurice and Perth-born performer Emma Dawson joins the talented swing cast. Here You Come Again isn’t just a tribute show. It’s a hilarious and heartwarming story about a diehard Dolly fan whose fantasy version of the iconic singer guides him through life’s ups and downs with charm, wit and of course an unforgettable soundtrack. Think sharp comedy meets touching moments, all wrapped up in a sequined bow of Dolly’s greatest hits! Co-created by the two-time Emmy Award-winning comedy writer and songwriter Bruce Vilanch, alongside director Gabriel Barre and Tricia Paoluccio, this musical has even got Dolly’s personal seal of approval! Featuring legendary hits like Jolene, 9 to 5 and the tear-jerking I Will Always Love You, you’re in for a night of singalongs and feel-good vibes. This Australian staging has even been specially adapted for our Aussie audiences by the celebrated writing duo Fiona Harris and Mike McLeish.

Cast

And who’s bringing the Queen of Country to life? None other than the show’s co-creator and star Tricia Paoluccio, who has wowed audiences in the role of Dolly stateside and across the pond. Joining Tricia is a stellar all-Australian ensemble, including the talented Dash Kruck (Little Shop of Horrors & Jesus Christ Superstar) as Kevin, Kellie Rode (Come From Away) as Mum and Laura Joy Bunting (Grease The Musical) as Tish. From today (May 23rd) for eight whole weeks, you can dive into Murphy’s artistic universe both in the gallery and out in the open air. This blockbuster exhibition, showcases over 40 of his captivating artworks, from sculptures to paintings. Brendan Murphy’s art is admired by some serious heavyweights, including Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Steph Curry and Robert DeNiro.

Lightning BOONJI

“Lightning” isn’t just a sculpture, it further cements our identity as the “City of Light”, a name that goes way back to when astronaut John Glenn spotted our brightly lit city from space in 1962. Positioned just a stone’s throw from Point Zero, this artwork beautifully merges art, science and our city’s unique story. So, what’s the story behind these captivating spacemen? These futuristic sculptures explore our emotions and human curiosity. With his art cleverly blending abstraction and realism, often featuring unique materials, universal symbols and his own signature formulas.

About the Artist

Brendan Murphy is a globally recognized contemporary artist whose works are cherished in private and public collections worldwide. From the start of his career he has combined abstract and figurative forms, inviting deeper contemplation through his sculptures and paintings. Believing that art has a unique power to universally transmit positive energy and that this collective energy can positively impact society. He’s also the creative force behind the stunning “Frozen with Desire” sculpture. A 42-inch spaceman adorned with over 6,200 ethically sourced diamonds. Drawing inspiration from formulas, equations, and relationships, Murphy’s work creates a visual spectrum of human emotion and the unifying aspects of our shared humanity. Through layers of these symbols, his paintings boldly portray the complexity and beauty of the human experience.

The dynamic score is performed live by the company on stage, weaving together original music with storytelling.

Starring some of Australia’s most acclaimed musical theatre performers and actor-musicians, including Jemma Rix as Galadriel, Ian Stenlake as Saruman, Rob Mallett as Strider and Rarmian Newton as Frodo Baggins. With Laurence Boxhall as Gollum, Hannah Buckley as Pippin and Stefanie Caccamo as Arwen. Joining them is Terence Crawford as Gandalf, Wern Mak as Samwise Gamgee, Connor Morel as Gimli and Conor Neylon as Legolas.

A Wonderful History

The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale had its initial production at The Watermill Theatre in the United Kingdom, and US premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Both receiving rave reviews! The musical features a book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna and Matthew Warchus. With original music by Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman, Finnish folk band Värttinä and Tony Award winner Christopher Nightingale.

Tickets for the Perth season of the Broadway blockbuster WICKED are currently on sale and selling fast! The musical will fly into Crown Theatre from the 15th of December until the 2nd of February, as the final stop on their Australian tour spanning Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and now Perth.

After recently celebrating 20 years since its premiere, WICKED is the fourth longest running show in Broadway history! They have captivated over 65 million people across 16 countries, and received over 100 major awards including a Grammy Award, an Olivier Award and three Tony Awards. This is one show you don’t wanna miss! WICKED is one of the most lavish musical productions to have ever played in Australia, giving the full Broadway experience. With the lavish sets and opulent costumes, it’s a feast for the eye and the ear.

If you’re unfamiliar with WICKED, here’s a quick synopsis that’ll leave you wanting more. Before Dorothy dropped into the land of Oz, two other young women meet. One born with emerald-green skin who is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. The other is bubbly, blonde, ambitious and exceptionally popular. Discover their journey as they become rivals, then friends, until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked.”

The incredible Australian cast is led by Courtney Monsma as Glinda and Sheridan Adams as Elphaba. Alongside rising star Liam Head as Fiyero and theatre and television favourite Todd McKenney playing the Wizard.

White Gum Valley

93 Samson Street, White Gum Valley

We start off our trail just South of Freo on Samson Street in White Gum Valley. Where Lego Masters winner Jackson Harvey has transformed a wastewater pump station into a masterpiece! This Splash of Colour design reflects Fremantle’s rich history as a port town of trade and sea faring travel, with strong ties to the ocean and coastal waterways that permeate our urban environment. Students at White Gum Valley Primary School received an art workshop by Jackson and learned about the importance of protecting our waterways for resident crabs to thrive. After you’ve finished admiring and maybe taken a snap or two, why not stop by the nearby Booyeembara Park for a picnic or stroll!

Port Beach Road

18 Leighton Beach Boulevard, North Fremantle

Our next stop is just a 10 minute drive from White Gum Valley, perched on the coast in North Fremantle! Another Jackson Harvey art piece, which is inspired by the colourful abundance of coastal marine life in Fremantle. The three Water Corporation electrical cabinets now feature a vibrant blue swimmer crab. The design focuses on the ocean being an integral part of the WA identity. This masterpiece was the first of its kind in Freo, aimed at inspiring people to appreciate water and be waterwise in their everyday life. This is our favourite work along the trail and what makes it even better? You can grab something to eat at nearby hotspot Bib & Tucker to fuel up for the rest of the colourful trail. Or stop into Leighton Beach!

Riverside Road

34 Riverside Road, East Fremantle

Titled ‘Moving On’, this East Freo painting is the second last stop! The artwork was designed by local artist Nathan Hoyle with input from Year 3 students at East Fremantle’s Richmond Primary School. Students helped design the artwork during an artist workshop and were also taught about the water cycle and the importance of being waterwise during the incursion. Colourful lines, shapes, and patterns adorn the previously indistinct pump station. Symbolising the river water moving towards the nearby sea, mixing with warmer currents and leaving patterns among the sand on the riverbank. Inspired by the nearby iconic Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) and capturing the attention of passers-by along the popular riverside route. It also makes a great backdrop for snaps to upload to your socials! Don’t forget to use #SplashOfColourWA so we can check out your trail memories.

Blackwall Reach Parade

60 Blackwall Reach Parade, Bicton

The last but definitely not least trail destination is Blake Poole’s Splash of Colour in Bicton. Only a six minute drive from the third stop, but we’d recommend taking the gorgeous riverside walk instead! The artwork is the result of a collaboration between the renowned Fremantle street artist and Year 4 Bicton Primary School students. Blake created the composition of the artwork with inspiration from the students, focussing on the use of lines and shapes to bring life and colour to the pump station. The vibrant artwork depicts local landmarks and wildlife, with a cormorant watching over the river. Not ready to call it a day after your colourful trail adventure? Lucky for you the last stop is located right near the Bicton Baths, Quarantine Park and jetty!

We’re committed to highlighting a diverse selection of mural artists, giving opportunities to up-and-coming talent, and featuring established artists who bring something unique to the area.”

Artists

The Subiaco festival will showcase an incredible lineup of world-renowned mural artists, including Sofles (QLD), Curtis Hylton (UK) and Wild Drawing (IDN). With a diverse range of styles and techniques, these artists will bring a new creative flare to Subiaco. Further solidifying its status as a cultural hotspot, making it a must see for art enthusiasts!

Blank Walls

Who is behind this creative festival? Meet Blank Walls. A group of Perth and London-based mural creators formed in 2019. Founded in Perth by Jerome Davenport, Will Clark, and Alex Harvey. Driven by an obsessive passion for street art culture, they redefine boring urban spaces. Specialising in murals, street art, hand-painted adverts, and content. Blank Walls encourage an artist-led approach, brand collaborations, and cultural crossover.
