Internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Brendan Murphy has brought one of his iconic, larger-than-life BOONJI spaceman sculptures to Perth earlier this week! This isn’t just any artwork, it’s a towering 7-meter marvel named “Lightning,” and it’s now standing proudly in our very own Stirling Gardens in the CBD. Murphy’s arrival aligns with his premiere solo exhibition, “Life is Electric” at Gullotti Galleries in Cottesloe.

From today (May 23rd) for eight whole weeks, you can dive into Murphy’s artistic universe both in the gallery and out in the open air. This blockbuster exhibition, showcases over 40 of his captivating artworks, from sculptures to paintings. Brendan Murphy’s art is admired by some serious heavyweights, including Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Steph Curry and Robert DeNiro.
Lightning BOONJI
“Lightning” isn’t just a sculpture, it further cements our identity as the “City of Light”, a name that goes way back to when astronaut John Glenn spotted our brightly lit city from space in 1962. Positioned just a stone’s throw from Point Zero, this artwork beautifully merges art, science and our city’s unique story. So, what’s the story behind these captivating spacemen? These futuristic sculptures explore our emotions and human curiosity. With his art cleverly blending abstraction and realism, often featuring unique materials, universal symbols and his own signature formulas.
