Day Trip to Yanchep, Our Guide of What to Do

  • July 17, 2023

The beautiful coastal suburb of Yanchep is located just 56 kilometers north of the city center, making it an easy 45 minute road trip. It is a popular destination for families and nature lovers, thanks to its stunning natural beauty and abundance of activities. Take a look at why you should make it your next stop for a day trip!

Snorkel in Yanchep Lagoon

Yanchep Lagoon boasts an impressive 400 metre reef home to a variety of marine life. Including fish, turtles, and crabs. Making it the perfect place swimming, snorkeling, and fishing. If you’ve got your bathers on and you’re ready for a swim the safest spots to take a dip are the south end of the main lagoon. Which is sheltered from large waves by the natural rock barrier. If fishing is more your thing, head to Fisherman’s Hollow in the south to try your hand at catching some adalone. But be sure to follow the license rules to protect the species for the future.

This marine life hotspot has an impressive array of rock pools teaming with creatures for you and the kids to discover. But be careful and follow the age old rule of look don’t touch. Your four legged furry friends are unfortunately not allowed at the lagoon. However Yanchep’s dog beach is only a two-minute drive away. After a long day at the beach pop into Orion Cafe to grab a cup of coffee, delicious lunch or sunset dinner to top of your wonderful day. If a picnic is more your vibe, the lagoon offers several shaded spots and gazebos to set up your perfect scene.

Visit Yanchep National Park

Yanchep is known for its incredible National Park. Which is one of the largest national parks in Western Australia, and is home to a variety of wildlife. The park pass is only $15 per small vehicle and offers up an activity filled day. Looking for an outdoor adventure? Check out the hiking trails that offer stunning views of the park’s natural beauty and range from easy to challenging. There’s something for everyone. Take your day to new heights by trying out a treetop adventure on sixteen ziplines. With over seventy challenging aerial obstacles to see the beautiful flora and fauna from above. If you’re looking for something a bit slower paced, check out golf course where you can enjoy a round with some local kangaroos amongst the green.

The onsite visitor centre offers an informative culture Aboriginal experience. Which we’d highly recommend to immerse you in the local Noongar culture and learn about the significance of the local plants and animals to the original custodians of the area. After your fun filled day, be sure to check out Chocolate Drop. To fuel up on some handmade sweet snacks or having a picnic utilising the barbecue facilities.

When to Visit

The best time to visit Yanchep is during the spring (September-November) or autumn (March-May) when the weather is mild. We recommend planning your trip beforehand to ensure you make the most out of your trip, especially for activities at the National Park.
