Covering over 400 hectares of land and offering stunning views of the Swan River, Perth CBD and Darling Range, Kings Park is one of the largest and most beautiful inner city parks in the world. But Kings Park is more than just a park – it’s also a botanic garden, a war memorial, a playground, a cultural hub and a nature reserve. Whether you are looking for relaxation, recreation, education or inspiration, you will find it at Kings Park. Here are some of the things you can do at Kings Park to make your visit a memorable one.
Treetop Walk
Walk among the treetops on the Lotterywest Federation Walkway. This 620-metre long elevated walkway showcases the diversity of Western Australian flora and fauna. You can even see the mighty boab tree Gija Jumulu, a 750-year-old relic that was moved 3,200 km from the Kimberley region.
Naturescape Playground
Let your kids explore, play and learn at the Rio Tinto Naturescape. The perfect place for children to connect with nature and see what it’s like to get down and dirty. They can climb ropes, wade through creeks, build cubbies and have endless fun. Other play areas at the Poorlgarla Family Area, May Drive Parkland and Saw Avenue Picnic Area offer the chance to meet colourful animal critters, play in the footprints of dinosaurs and discover the insect world.
Botanic Garden
Discover the beauty and diversity of Western Australian wildflowers at the Botanic Garden. Where you can see over 3,000 species of plants from different regions and climates. There are plants in flower all year round, with the peak season between July and October. Take a walk with a nature expert on a free guided tour to understand why two thirds of the 400 hectare park is protected.
War Memorial
Honour the servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives for our country at the State War Memorial. Take a moment to observe the Flame of Remembrance, the Whispering Wall and many other memorials dotted along the trees throughout the park. You can also walk down the Kokoda Track Walk to pay tribute to the fallen of World War II.
Wildlife
Experience the wildlife strewn about the protected bushland providing a corridor thats benefits local birds and invertebrates. Try your hand at spotting one of the over seventy bird species, twenty reptile species and hundreds of different invertebrates. If you’re lucky you might even see a brushtail possum or quenda.
Gallery Shop
If you’re in the mood for some retail therapy pop into Aspects of Kings Park shop. Where you can find unique gifts, souvenirs and art by Australian artists. The proceeds go towards supporting conservation works for Kings Park and Botanic Garden to ensure it’s beauty lives on.
