Perth cinema enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The Revelation Perth International Film Festival is back for its 2025 edition. Promising a cinematic journey as daring and diverse as ever. Running from July 2nd to 13th across Luna Leederville, Luna on SX and The Backlot. This year’s festival boasts a packed program of over 45 features and documentaries, alongside a over one hundred short films.

Feature Films
The program is brimming with fascinating features including MR BURTON, which offers a glimpse into the early life of the legendary Welsh actor Richard Burton. Meanwhile, SEPTEMBER SAYS promises a complex and unsettling exploration of sisterhood with surreal and gothic undertones, drawing comparisons to literary giant Stephen King. Local flavour shines through with SKELETON GIRLS. A KIDNAPPED SOCIETY, an Aussie indie-punk film from WA director Richard Eames.
Rev is also celebrating some significant cinematic milestones. They’ll be marking the 40th anniversary of the award-winning WA-made film FRAN, starring Noni Hazlehurst. As well as bringing back the 1988 WA feature SHAME. Film buffs will also have a rare opportunity to experience three influential works by Wim Wenders (ALICE IN THE CITIES, THE AMERICAN FRIEND) in honour of his 80th birthday, alongside a 4K restoration of the WWII Italian drama ROME OPEN CITY.

Documentaries & Short Films
The documentary lineup looks equally compelling, exploring diverse voices and themes. Highlights include ABEBE: BUTTERFLY SONG, following artist David Bridie’s musical journey and CHAIN REACTIONS, which examines the cultural impact of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Short films remain a cornerstone of Revelation, and this year boasts its most extensive program yet, with over 100 shorts spanning various genres and styles. Expect bold, urgent and fiercely creative bite-sized cinematic experiences. Keep an eye out for the Experimental, Horror & Sci-Fi and Short Docs showcases.

WA Talent
Revelation’s commitment to local talent shines through with Western Australian content woven throughout the program, including events like The Great Kimberley Wilderness VR Audio Experience and the City of Vincent Film Project. There’s also a dedicated First Nations showcase and Wimmin’s Work, a new collection highlighting the stories of Western Australian women. Families aren’t forgotten either, with the return of the free International Family Animation Explosion at the State Library of WA.
